Lions to get help from Thompson, Hackney

A pair of former Carl Junction Bulldogs look to provide significant help to the Missouri Southern Lions in 2009.

There are two distinct groups among Missouri Southern’s wide receiver corps.

Isaac Norman and Daniel Thompson are two seniors who have seen a lot of action for the Lions, and then there is a big collection of sophomores and redshirt freshmen anxious to make an impact.

“The best thing about this receiving corps is Isaac Norman and Daniel Thompson,” receivers coach Jared Elliott said. “They are two guys with a lot of experience. They anchor this position group.

“They know this offense as well as Coach (Matt) Karleskint and I do. They are coaches on the field, and that’s what we need.

There is something about being a player, you can learn from your peers. Those two guys do a tremendous job coaching on the field. I think that’s one reason we’re going to be successful at the wide receiver position.”

Norman caught 25 passes for 301 yards and Thompson grabbed 21 for 241 yards last season. Both scored three touchdowns.

Two offensive linemen returned for the Lions, leaving three spots open.

Seth Hackney, a redshirt freshman from Carl Junction, moves in at right tackle.

“I’m very excited about his career here,” Plunkett said. “He’s a very high-class, high-character kid ... obviously a young man who cares.

“He is kind of a natural guard, but he has really good feet and athletic ability and is quick. He’s willing to learn. He just wants to help the football team. That’s what he cares about.”

Thompson graduated from Carl Junction in 2005 while Hackney was a 2008 graduate.
